Liberal or Conservative, Small Business Owners United on One Thing

In a news cycle that seems dominated by gloom, whether the steep drop in oil prices threatening our energy industry or the coronavirus threatening almost everyone, it’s nice to see some good news.

It takes a confident attitude and risk tolerance to go into business, and today’s small business owners are ignoring the political divide when it comes to their attitudes about their business outlook.

This article doesn’t just talk about attitudes; it puts numbers, charts, and graphs to work to illustrate the small business owner optimism. First, more than 80% of small business owners are optimistic about the future of their business.

While they’re positive overall, one concern of almost all business owners surveyed is taxes and government regulation. While only 17% said federal taxes and regulations on their business are a burden, 20% cited state regulations and state taxes as an issue.

Around 95% of business owners ranked the economy as the most significant impact on their business, and 90% stated that taxes were high on their list of issues. The article graphs the different percentages by political leaning, Republican, Democrat, or Independent.
